Horseback Riding in Taihape New Zealand - Half Day
Horseback Riding in Taihape This exciting horsebacking riding tour explores the foothills of a major local landmark known as Pukeokahu (Hill of the Hawk). It also gives you the opportunity to experience views of Mt Ruapehu and the northern Ruahine ranges. The ride incorporates stopping at some spectacular viewing points overlooking the Rangitikei River canyon. Refreshments and lunch are provided. This trek is most suitable for those with some riding experience. For our less experienced riders - please book our Horseback Riding in Taihape New Zealand - 2 Hours. Horse Trekking combines amazing scenery, the chance to feel the pulse of life in the rural countryside of the Rangitikei District, New Zealand, and the opportunity to feel the exhilaration of a galloping horse. We have a selection of horses to suit many different riding abilities. There will be one just right for you! PLEASE NOTE: Taihape is located 231km/144 mi. from Wellington and 103km/64 mi. from Palmerston North. Transportation to Taihape is NOT included in the ticket price.
Cancellation Policy: There are no refunds. All sales are final. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center. Our expert guides can help you improve your horse riding skills during your trek, which may be 2 hours to a full day. Our guides will be happy to answer any questions that you have. "Horse Trekking" - We struggle a little with this term as it is often used to describe a bunch of old, tired and bored horses going over exactly the same route day after day. Rest assured, this is not the experience that you will get. The route taken is varied daily, keeping horses and guides alert and interested. In addition our horses are well fed ensuring they have a bit of extra energy - though not too much we hope! Australian stock saddles are used, which are like a cross between an English and a Western saddle. This type of saddle is comfortable and secure, giving a good smooth ride. Riding trails wind their way through patches of bush, and over New Zealand central North Island hill country farmland. Each corner seems to open up a new vista of incredible beauty. Oilskin overcoats, helmets, and on cool days gloves, are provided. The only thing you need to bring is your camera and lotsa smiles. RESTRICTIONS:
MAXIMUM OF 5-7 RIDERS PER TOUR DEPENDING ON ABILITIES. Limited to age 13 unless child is experienced rider and prior arrangements are made. Tour does not include hotel pick-up. Rates are per person and in US dollars. Please reserve online or call us toll-free at 800-719-8190. ![]() |
